Originally published as "British Mammals" in two volumes in 1920 and 1921. This is the US version of the Ebury Press / Michael Joseph edition of 1974. This is an interesting collection of excellent colour prints of the British mammal species, including whales and dolphins, with a detailed explanatory text by the artist. This revised edition arranges the original text more conveniently with respect to some of the illustrations than in the original. Since the taxonomic classification of a number of species has been refined since Thorburn's day, this edition gives current Latin names in brackets after the original names. The size of this edition (7 1/2"x 10 5/8") is half that of the first edition.
