TOM'S BOOK: A COLLECTION OF FISHING STORIES. By Robert Olsen. De luxe leather-bound edition.
2011 1st edition. 8vo (178 x 245mm). Ppvi,168,ad. B/w illustrations by the author, silk marker ribbon. Fully bound in tan leather, gilt-bordered marbled end-papers, all edges gilt, dark brown kingfisher design and gilt titlesto upper board, three raised bands, spine titled in gilt. De luxe leather-bound edition limited to 40 copies.
Tom's Book was a personal project - written, illustrated and designed purely for the author's son. Those who saw it finally persudaded Olsen to publish his book to a wider audience. "It is a very personal view of fishing involving friends, barbel, grayling, chub and salmon from the Wye valley, carp and tench from hidden pools, trout from streams, crazy thoughts, fun and a meeting with Bernard Venables that brought his childhood fishing full circle. Through 'Tom's Book' he has brought together his love for water, the written word, typography and illustration into a single volume." Beautifully illustrated and very well written this book comes thoroughly recommended. This is a copy of the attractively produced de luxe leather-bound edition that was limited to only 40 numbered copies. This copy however is numbered "AC 5" (an author's copy) and so presumably extra to the limitation. A handsome book.
