H.D. Turing was editor of The Salmon and Trout Magazine, and had previously been angling editor of The Field. "We congratulate Mr. Turing... He has written a book which is pleasantly discursive and yet he keeps sufficiently close to the subject throughout to be practical and instructive, and he has been wise enough to include chapters on spinning and fishing with worm and bait." Chapters include: About trout; Tackle; Casting; A day on the river; Dry-fly fishing and its problems; Nymph fishing; On flies, artificial and natural; The underwater world; Trout fishing in rapid streams; Lochs and still waters; On spinning for trout; More about spinning; On worm and bait fishing; On playing and landing fish; Knots and emergency repairs; The fascination of the 'odd day'; The principles of fly tying. The later, 1961 5th edition had three further sections added, dealing with nylon lines. *This copy has the dust-wrapper for Maurice C. Anderson's Lessons in Midwifery printed on the reverse, which was standard practice in wartime economy publishing.
