(1924) 1925 1st US edition. 8vo (145 x 223mm). Ppviii,253. Illustrated with b/w photograph plates and a line drawing as above. The 2-page map is tipped-in at the back of the book. Dark blue cloth, spine titled in gilt (Houghton Mifflin at foot), publisher's logo blind-stamped on upper board.
"[The author] was a writer of real quality, and in "Where the bright waters meet" he produced an outstanding angling autobiography, which is quite rightly regarded as a classic of the chalk-streams. ...In this book, as well as paying homage to the Bourne, he wrote chapters on Blagdon, the Test and the Kennet, and while he lays down no definite instructions, he brings us to his side while he is fishing, and leaves us to find out his true quality from watching him at work". (Howard Marshall in his introduction to the 1969 edition)*. This copy has three minor pencil corrections which appear to be in the hand of the author, and a pencil note saying that this was the author's owncopy.
