WINGS AND HACKLE: A pot-pourri of fly fishing for trout and grayling and of notes on bird life, chiefly in Hampshire, Devon and Derbyshire. By Raymond Hill.

(1912) ND (1933) new edition. Pp256. B/w photographs. Binding A. Blueish-green cloth, spine titled in gilt. No advertisements at the rear of this issue.

Memories of flyfishing, mostly on Hampshire chalk-streams, including three chapters on grayling, several on waterside birds and one on the eagle owl in Ceylon. We have seen an author's copy with an ink inscription "Raymond Hill Godfrey, 79 Cornhill, E.C." on the dedication page, and a signature and name-stamp, both giving his name simply as Raymond GODFREY. Godfrey's obituary in the Monthly Notices of The Royal Astronomical Society states that after leaving school, he "...went to Ceylon, where he was engaged for some years in the coffee-planting industry. On his return he became a member of the London Stock Exchange and follow that avocation successfully until his death. He was also keenly interested in astronomy, and was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society."
